CSG invests in specialist acid tanker

Investment has continued at pace at leading waste management company CSG with the purchase of a specialist tanker designed to carry acid.

CSG has purchased a 44 tonne, £200,000 tanker which has been lined with chemical-resistant fibreglass, allowing the business to effectively transport all types of acid.
The 30,000 litre artic barrel was built and supplied by specialist tanker manufacturer RTN Clayton Vallely.

This latest investment by thriving CSG follows hot on the heels of a near-£1m expenditure on two high performance rigid vacuum tankers and a long-distance articulated liquid ring tanker, along with a KOKS CycloVac HVAM (Disab tanker).

Jen Cartmell, Treatment Director at CSG, said: “We are delighted to add this specialist fibreglass-lined tanker to our ever-expanding fleet.

“We are able to process a wide range of complex industrial chemical substances, including acids and alkalis. This includes fuming acids such as oleum, chlorosulfonic acid and acidic solvents, as well as strong oxidising agents such as chromic acid, potassium permanganate and sodium hypochlorite.

“Some of these substances could cause severe corrosion to regular steel tankers so a fibreglass lining is required to ensure safe transportation as the material is highly-resistant to most acids and does not corrode.

“It is fantastic to be able to use the services of a British manufacturer to get this highly-specialist vehicle on the road for the benefit of our industrial customers right across the country.
“CSG has been in business for 90 years and has always had an ethos of continued improvement and investment.”

CSG operates the UK’s largest fleet of specialist waste management vehicles. All CSG drivers and chemists are trained extensively to remove and transport waste chemicals safely.
Waste acids are treated at CSG’s Cadishead site near Manchester, which was originally developed to treat antimony pentachloride mixed with chlorinated and fluorinated solvents, a catalyst arising from chemical production.

Hazardous waste liquids are carefully neutralised and disposed of to the highest safety and environmental standards.
