Mitsubishi Fuso opens orders for the new all-electric eCanter truck in Japan

Customers in Japan can now order the fully remodelled all-electric eCanter

Mitsubishi Fuso has officially opened the doors to the future of trucking in Japan. Offering customers the opportunity to order the fully remodeled all electric eCanter, the company is expanding its chassis lineup with 28 domestic variants to address the needs of a wide array of business applications. The new battery modularization implemented into the Mitsubishi eCanter provides ample options for transportation, ranging from last mile deliveries and long range up to 324 km, ensuring that businesses across the country are able to drive forward with eco-friendly solutions.

Karl Deppen, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Company (MFTBC), headquartered in Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture, is delighted to open orders for the all-new electric light-duty eCanter truck in Japan. MFTBC's sales companies and regional sales units across the country have already started accepting orders as of March 9, 2023.

The significant expansion of the eCanter's chassis lineup builds off the innovations that MFTBC unveiled in 2022. It seamlessly combines the motor with the rear axle, known as the eAxle, which enables a reconfiguration of the drivetrain. Resulting in a more compact design, MFTBC was able to broaden the vehicle options to 28 domestic variants with the ability to incorporate a power take-off unit (ePTO), suitable for body applications such as tippers, car carriers, detachable body trucks, rear cranes, and refuse trucks.

Furthermore, the eCanter was engineered with a modularized battery design fitted to accommodate a range from one to three battery modules based on the wheelbase. This allows for a wide range of applications, providing drivers with a range varying from 99 km to a maximum of 324 km, suitable for everything from local, last-mile deliveries to long-distance transportation. A great number of functions have also been applied to reduce battery consumption during usage in cold climates.

In light of MFTBC's global operational experience over the past five years, MFTBC will be introducing 'FUSO eMobility Solutions' to support customers looking to transition into a subsidiary of the Daimler Truck Group, has announced its commitment to decarbonize heavy transportation in Japan by 2039.

As part of this ambitious goal, MFTBC is launching the renowned FUSO eCanter, the world’s first series-produced all-electric, light-duty truck. The eCanter is set to revolutionize commercial transportation in Japan, as businesses and fleets alike shift to sustainable solutions.

Karl Deppen, President and CEO of MFTBC, commented: “At MFTBC, we are dedicated to supporting customers looking for ways to transition to a low carbon future.
