Nikola Trucks & E.ON Sign Agreement with Leading Logistics Provider
German company Righter Group Makes a Big Move to Decarbonising its Fleet with Latest Collaboration
Nikola Corporation, E.ON and Richter Group announce a groundbreaking collaboration today, with the signing of a Letter of Intent for an initial order of 20 Class 8 Nikola Tre hydrogen-electric trucks and the necessary green hydrogen and infrastructure to fuel them. Richter Group, one of the leading providers of individual logistics services in Germany, aim to be the first in the country to transition their fleet of over 160 trucks to zero-emissions vehicles, and they could provide the opportunity to transition an additional 750 trucks by working with their logistics partners.
The initial order of Nikola Tre hydrogen-electric trucks is expected to be delivered in early 2024 and will be manufactured in Ulm, Germany by Nikola and their partner, Iveco Group. Refueling infrastructure and the necessary green hydrogen will be supplied by E.ON, and Richter Group and its partners have the opportunity to source Nikola's Hydrogen-electric trucks through IVECO's Green & Advanced Transport Ecosystem (GATE) Iveco's all-inclusive electric truck rental service.
The Nikola Tre, a heavy-duty, hydrogen-electric truck designed for both long-haul and regional transportation produces zero emissions with a range of up to 800 kilometres. The Nikola Tre hydrogen-electric truck provides the logistics industry the opportunity to make the switch to zero-emission with substantial cost savings. Nikola and E.ON will provide all necessary hydrogen-electric vehicles, green hydrogen, and refueling infrastructure, allowing companies such as Richter Group to reap the economic and environmental benefits.
In addition to zero emissions, the Nikola Tre truck consumes approximately 30 percent less energy than its diesel-power counterparts and is powerful enough to reach speeds of 130 kilometres per hour. It also boasts numerous class-leading safety and efficiency features such as active safety systems, automated driving functions, and a virtual engineer to monitor and support the driver.
The collaboration between Nikola, E.ON, Richter Group, and Iveco Group promises to turn the logistics industry into a green-focused one in Germany and beyond. Nikola Corporation is leading the way toward zero-emission transportation, and this announcement is a significant milestone in the company's progress.
