Next week Scottish Startup Hydrogen Vehicle Systems (HVS) will reveal its Long-Range Tractor Unit
Hydrogen Vehicle Systems (HVS) will be introducing their new space-like, long-range tractor unit at the Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham on April 18th. This hydrogen-powered truck is stated to have a range of up to 370 miles, and a refuelling time of 15-20 minutes.
HVS CEO Jawad Khursheed said: “Thanks to the fresh thinking and ground-up approach, HVS has created an HGV that offers the complete package of game-changing technology and driver ergonomics. The state-of-the-art fuel cell stack coupled with the best in the industry hydrogen tanks ensures rapid refuelling times and maximises time on the road – delivering unrivalled Total Cost of Ownership to our customers.”
At the Birmingham NEC, the Commercial Vehicle Show will host the public unveiling of the vehicle for the first time. With the hydrogen fuel cell system and energy storage system, energy is deployed to an electric motor, which in turn transmits power to the wheels. It is equipped with a Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS), which recovers energy under braking and when the truck is slowing down.
HVS suggests that the vehicle will deliver class-leading fuel efficiency and powertrain durability that contributes to achieving a total cost of ownership that is comparable to current diesel-powered offerings in the market. Additionally, the vehicle's hydrogen fuel cell permits longer range, higher load-carrying capacity, and faster refuelling than a battery electric technology alone.
