The 2024 awards, now in their third year, took place at the iconic British Motor Museum in Warwick, attended by major automotive OEMs, industry leaders, policy makers and innovators, and saw prizes for innovation and excellence across the sector.
Tevva picked up a hattrick of awards including the Overall Achievement award as an E Mobility manufacturer, all down to our commitment to reducing freight carbon emissions and our demonstrable progress with truck deployment. Our vehicles are trusted to do the job and have already done over 600,000 kms in the UK since 2018, and we'll continue to demonstrate the extent to which battery-electric trucks can reduce emissions and save money in the long term through our fleet trial programme.
With regards to our innovation credentials, Tevva was the first UK manufacturer to achieve European Whole Vehicle Type Approval (EUWVTA) for a 7.5t battery electric truck . The design includes a highly efficient motor, containing no rare earth metals, as well as the EBS and regenerative braking system where the motor handles most of the braking effort. Conventional brakes only being used to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. Energy normally lost in braking is harnessed in the regen system providing a more energy-efficient drive cycle and maximising range.
Bob Teale, Engineering Director at Tevva said, “we have stuck to our core value of creating technology that makes a difference to humanity by developing systems that improve our zero emission trucks with optimised efficiency through, for example, our regenerative braking system. As always, we constantly strive to check our ‘homework’ so we have developed a simple tracking and modelling tool that enables us to constantly check the daily CO2 savings and what this equates to over a year of operations. This has resulted in really good understanding of ‘real world’ duty cycles and ultimately what that means to the Tevva mission now and as we go forward.”
In its first 10 weeks of duty, a Tevva electric truck saved 2.2 tonnes of CO2 versus the diesel truck its replaced - a great start in decarbonising commercial logistics.
One of the judges commented, 'A very impressive entry with noteworthy aims, a good range of innovations, a highly impressive strategy to implement quickly which has resulted in a delivered vehicle which is already driving significant CO2 savings'.
