Broughton Transport Solutions selects first top spec Renault Trucks T Highs
Broughton Transport Solutions Ltd, specialist in UK and international temperature-controlled and ambient transport, has added the first Renault Trucks T Highs to its 60-strong mixed fleet.
Supplied by Sparks Commercial Services, the two highly specified T520 Highs were selected for their fuel economy, performance, driver satisfaction and the relationship with the dealer following a comprehensive trial.
The two new T520 High 6x2 pusher tractor units will operate out of Broughton Transport Solutions’ Melksham base, and join existing Renault Trucks’ vehicles on the fleet, including three rigids and two vans, with the latest vehicles brought on board for long-haul international temperature controlled and ambient transport work.
Broughton Transport Solutions’ decision to expand its fleet coincides with the continued high demand for British produce in continental Europe. Toby Ovens, Managing Director at Broughton Transport Solutions elaborated: “There is a growing appetite for premium British meat on the continent, and the addition of these Renault Trucks’ vehicles to our fleet is essential to meet the demands of our consistently busy workload."
Toby highlighted the importance of a demonstrator vehicle in Broughton Transport Solutions’ decision-making process: “Putting the T High to the test in various real-world working scenarios allowed the vehicle to prove itself in long-distance work and it performed admirably across the board. Despite encountering some challenging weather conditions and hilly terrain, the T520 High demonstrator performed very well on fuel, and its AdBlue consumption was around half that of competitor vehicles used for similar work, which can translate into a significant operating cost saving. The driver also praised the well-designed cab, noting its spaciousness and excellent ride.”
The 13 litre T520 Highs with high sleeper cabs are fitted with the Optidriver AT 2612 gearbox with automatic clutch providing a maximum torque of 2550 Nm at 990 rpm to 1400 rpm. The vehicles are decked out in Broughton’s head-turning blue, red and white livery with the bumper corners, centre and steps in matching cab colour.
Broughton Transport Solutions has ensured that the T Highs are equipped for enhanced driver comfort with a top of the range specification that incudes “luxury” adjustable, heated and ventilated driver’s seat, leather steering wheel, heat insulated cab, air conditioning and insulated cab curtains. Additional home-from home comforts include multi-media touchscreen, multiple lighting optional extras, fridge, microwave and additional rear lockers for extra storage on long road trips.
Toby noted: “My drivers can be out for two weeks at a time and keeping them happy is a top priority. That’s why the T520 Highs have been highly specified with all the optional extras to make life more comfortable, productive and enjoyable during their time out on the road.”
The T520 Highs have been secured on a 5-year repair and maintenance contract with maintenance handled at Sparks Commercial Services in Swindon.
Toby added: “Roger Millett at Sparks always responds promptly to any queries and has been extremely supportive of our requirements with the wider team at the dealership also extremely responsive and flexible. One of the trucks was delivered in the morning and hit the road that afternoon, heading for Calais on a two-week trip to deliver meat to Portugal and I am very pleased with its performance so far.”
