Chiltern Distribution boosts fuel economy with first Renault Trucks in fleet

Specialising in cost-effective logistics for frozen, chilled, ambient and pharmaceutical distribution across the UK and Europe, Chiltern Distribution have added their first two Renault Trucks T High 520 6X2 Pusher tractor units to their 50-vehicle-strong fleet.

The trucks were supplied by RH Commercial Vehicles on a 5-year contract hire deal with full repair and maintenance. The firm opted for the trucks due to the impressive fuel economy and driver comfort of the T High demo they tested.

Andy Gibson, Fleet Manager, said: “The demonstrator vehicle we tested was the turning point towards the Renault Trucks brand. We had it for two weeks and found the fuel economy outstanding. We even tried to stitch it up by sending it on different routes but the results were incredible.

“Fuel is a major factor in our expenses, so after seeing such a positive fuel economy result, adding the two trucks to the fleet was the best decision to increase fleet efficiency.”

The trucks feature the 13-litre engine with an increased max. torque to 1400 rpm. Providing an increased torque results in improved engine responsiveness. The significant reduction in fuel with these vehicles has also helped the company work towards their commitment to minimise the impact on the environment.

The cabs feature various additional extras to enhance the comfort of the driver. A luxury driver’s seat featuring adjustable support, heating and ventilation systems has been fitted. An additional memory foam mattress topper has been fitted with interior lighting controls. The cab also features remote control cab comfort features, an electricity facility for powering a microwave or coffee machine and a 40l refrigerator has been added to the cab.

The additional features are essential to enhancing driver wellbeing, especially on long haul trips, and further work to increase driver retention.

Brian Sagaseta, Managing Director, said: “We have received nothing but positive feedback from our drivers. They find them incredibly comfortable, easy to handle, and feel confident on the road. With impressive fuel economy, these trucks prove to be a great all-round choice for our business needs.

“This echoes the seamless experience we received from RH Commercial Vehicles. The communication has been faultless and we received our vehicles on time with any minor issues resolved promptly and correctly”
