Continental Simplifies Tyre Line-Up with Launch of New Generation 5 Eco Tyre
Continental is restructuring its tyre line-up for general haulage truck applications, offering customers a simpler yet more capable range of options.
This move follows the introduction of Continental’s new Generation 5 Eco tyre, which was launched at the company’s Hannover headquarters in April. The new Eco tyre will soon replace the existing long-distance-focused Conti EcoPlus tyre and the Conti EcoRegional tyre designed for mixed distribution fleets.
Streamlined Choices for Operators
Operators will now have a choice of three tyre options, capable of supporting a wide range of fleet uses. The newly developed fifth-generation Eco tyre bridges the performance gap between low rolling resistance and high mileage, often found in on-road haulage tyres. This results in a tyre that performs exceptionally well for both motorway and regional use.
Available for both steer and drive axles, the Eco tyre builds on the strengths of the outgoing models, incorporating the latest advancements in tyre design technology. The durable, long-lasting tyre aims to maximise fuel economy and mileage, ensuring operators can reduce costs and enhance efficiency.
Versatile and Sustainable Solutions
The Generation 5 Hybrid tyre line, unveiled in 2022, remains Continental’s most adaptable option, suitable for trucks operating in diverse environments. Combining high mileage with durability and good traction, the Hybrid tyre supports vehicles in regional and inner-city environments while maintaining performance on motorways and off-road.
Additionally, Continental offers the EfficientPro tyre to truck manufacturers, renowned for its exceptionally low rolling resistance. This tyre is designed to achieve optimal fuel efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions, meeting the dynamic regulatory requirements of the EU Taxonomy for fleets.
Industry Endorsement
Grant Willman, Sales Director – Truck Tyres UK & Ireland, commented on the new range: “Our simplified on-road tyre range is testament to the outstanding innovation delivered by our Generation 5 tyre models. Each tyre offers an exceptional mix of durability and performance to better meet the diverse needs of our operators. When combined with our ContiRe and Bandvulc retread ranges, and tyres from our other brands, such as Uniroyal, Continental undoubtedly has one of the most capable product portfolios on the market today.”
Enhanced Performance and Cost Efficiency
The Conti Eco HS 5 and HD 5 tyres are now available across many countries in the EMEA region, designed specifically for the steer and drive axles, respectively. These tyres provide up to a 12% improvement in rolling resistance and up to a 10% increase in mileage over their predecessors, translating to significant cost savings and reduced CO2 emissions.
Hinnerk Kaiser, responsible for the development of truck and bus tyres at Continental in the EMEA region, stated: “Our new tyre builds on its successful predecessors – the Conti EcoPlus Gen3+ for long-distance haulage and the Conti EcoRegional Gen3+ for regional transport. The new Conti Eco brings together the best qualities of the Conti EcoPlus and Conti EcoRegional and elevates them to a new level.”
Future-Proof Solutions
Continental’s new tyre line is designed for enhanced retreading, contributing to greater cost efficiency and sustainability. The new tyres are compatible with the ContiConnect 2.0 tyre management solution, enabling remote monitoring and predictive service planning to reduce tyre-related operating costs.
Customers can already specify ContiRe Generation 5 Hybrid retread tyres, with the ContiRe Eco tyre launching in 2025. Alternatively, operators can choose from the Bandvulc range of retread tyres, engineered and manufactured at the ContiLifeCycle facility in Ivybridge, Devon.
Continental’s fifth-generation Eco tyre represents a significant advancement in tyre technology, offering operators a simplified yet highly capable range of options. By enhancing fuel economy, reducing CO2 emissions, and improving durability, Continental continues to lead in providing sustainable and efficient solutions for the transport sector.
