Delegates representing the Isuzu Truck UK team will be competing at the Isuzu World Technical Competition 2023

The Isuzu World Technical Competition, also known as the I-1 Grand Prix, is being held in Japan early November 2023.

The contest brings together the brightest Isuzu technicians with their teams from across the globe, giving them the opportunity to showcase their skills and professional aptitude against the world’s best Isuzu technicians.

Back in July 2023, Isuzu Truck (UK) Ltd held a qualifying assessment aimed at choosing the delegates that will join the UK team. During the qualifying round, which took place at ITUK’s dedicated training facility at HQ in Hatfield, the two technicians with the best results, who showed advanced techniques and skills ranging from engine timing to component testing under timed scenarios, were selected.

Graded and assessed by the highly experienced team of trainers from ITUK, the two technicians, Ashley from RH Commercial Vehicles –  Northampton and George from SW Commercials will be joining the ITUK team. These delegates reflected the best problem-solving skills and technical knowledge of Isuzu products. A well-deserved appreciation goes to all other participants who attended the qualifying round.

From theoretical to practical tasks, either individual or team tasks, the delegates’ skills and know-how will be put to the test during the two-day event.

Being hosted at the Pacifico Yokohama Conference Centre, this competition is not only a fantastic accomplishment for the delegates careers, but it’s also a once in a lifetime cultural experience.

Tim Hicks, Head of Operations for Isuzu Truck UK commented “Isuzu Truck UK are delighted to again be participating in the I-1 Grand Prix Technical Skills Competition in Japan. This prestigious event tests the technical skills and expertise of Technicians from over 30 countries around the world. Gathering in Japan to compete against one another once again shows the serious commitment, hard work and dedication demonstrated by HGV Technicians within the UK and farther afield on a daily basis, and the value of these incredibly important members of our industry.  We wish the whole team the very best of luck in their endeavours to bring back the “Golden Spanner”.
