Driving performance and service support brings Lloyds Transport back to Volvo
Tamworth-based haulier Lloyds Transport has acquired nine Volvo FH Aero 6x2 tractor units, the first of a total of 15 due to be delivered to the operator in 2025.
The trucks’ arrival marks a return to Volvo for the customer, with the new vehicles replacing those supplied by other manufacturers.
Lloyds Transport has acquired nine Volvo FH Aero 6x2 tractor units, the first of a total of 15 due to be delivered to the operator.
The deal was secured by Daniel Byworth, Area Sales Manager, Hartshorne Group, following a successful trial of the dealer’s FH Aero demonstrator, which delivered excellent fuel economy and positive driver reviews.
Martin Lloyd, Managing Director, Lloyds Transport, says: “Our drivers have been really impressed with the new Volvos. The cabs are comfortable, well-equipped, and easy to work in. Plus, with the mileage we do – close to 190,000 km a year per truck – we needed something that could go the distance. The I-Save engines have been excellent on fuel, and the trucks are proving reliable under pressure.
“Overall, Volvo offered a much more competitive package without compromising on performance or comfort, and that’s a big win when you’re running vehicles around the clock.”
The customer’s new Volvo FH Aeros each leverage turbo-compounding technology, allowing drivers to maintain lower revs and a higher gear for a longer time to deliver a more fuel-efficient journey. The trucks are powered by D13TC Euro-6 Step E engine, producing 460 hp and 2,600 Nm of torque, providing a comfortable, powerful and efficient driving experience ideally suited to Lloyds Transport’s operational needs.
The tractor units’ innovative engines are paired with Volvo’s popular 12-speed I-Shift automated gearbox technology and I-See predictive cruise control to yield significant sustainability and operational gains.
A Volvo Media package, including a high performance 12-inch fully dynamic instrument cluster and DAB radio, is paired with the FH Aero’s built-in navigation system, featuring improved maps adapted to truck-specific needs.
The trucks also feature additional cab storage, a 33-litre fridge / freezer, bottle holders, and a luxury sleeper control panel, all courtesy of a Living+ package.
In addition to Volvo’s driving performance, Lloyds Transport was also convinced to return to the manufacturer due to its ongoing investment in its service network.
“For a fleet like ours running 24/7, reliability is absolutely critical,” adds Lloyd. “Volvo stood out not just for the fuel efficiency and driver comfort, but for the strength of its backup service. In our experience, other manufacturers have struggled with aftersales due to staffing shortages, but Volvo has clearly invested wisely in its staff and facilities, which gives us real confidence in their long-term support. That kind of forward thinking is exactly what operators need right now.”
The trucks are expected to remain in service for at least four years, completing general haulage work across the UK. They have joined a 130-strong commercial vehicle fleet.
