Abbey’s latest DAF acquisitions are being deployed to serve leading food producers across the UK and Europe. The trucks join an established UK operation comprising more than 400 tractor units, nearly 700 purpose-designed tankers, and a further 1,100 vehicles operated across Europe by parent company Sitra Group.

Supplied and supported by DAF Dealer, North West Trucks, the latest fleet order also underscores the strength of the enduring relationship between operator and manufacturer.

Early data from the new Model-Year ‘25 XF 450 mid-lift 6x2 tractors indicates a notable uplift in efficiency, with average fuel returns rising from 10.09mpg on Abbey’s earlier vehicles of an equivalent specification to 10.49mpg on the latest ’25-plate vehicles, which feature a number of enhancements including to fuel efficiency through engine and driveline updates. The figures represent an almost 4.0% fuel economy improvement and an annual cost saving of around £1300 per truck.

Dave Patten, Chief Executive Officer at Abbey Logistics, said, “Our long-term relationship with DAF Trucks and North West Trucks has been built on reliability, efficiency and the strength of the aftersales support we receive. We’re delighted to be adding these latest-generation vehicles into our fleet. Early signs are indicating a fuel economy improvement of around four percent compared with earlier trucks of comparable specification. It’s still early days,” he said, “but we’re excited to see even better fuel economy developing as more vehicles join the fleet. These improvements are vital to ensuring we deliver the highest levels of service to our customers while driving greater efficiency across our operations.”

Abbey Logistics drivers have been quick to highlight the DAF XF 450’s excellent driving characteristics and premium feel of the XF Sleeper High Cab, praising its refined comfort for a fleet vehicle. The deep, curved windscreen, large side windows and passenger-side kerb-view ‘vision’ door provide exceptional visibility while enhancing safety for all road users. Inside, the spacious, practical layout make long days out more relaxing, with thoughtful design touches that drivers describe as improving the XF cab beyond expectations.
