Magtec Secures Type Approval for its MEV75 Electric Truck

The MEV75 is available for immediate order with chassis available from stock.

Magtec has achieved a major milestone with the recent Small Series type approval for its new 7.5-tonne electric truck. Built using an Iveco Glider, the MEV75 was manufactured with an 80kWh battery granting it the capability to travel up to 62 miles on a single charge, while taking an impressive four hours to fully recharge.

Homologation specialist, and vehicle integration engineering manager at Magtec, Louise Atkinson said: “Securing GB Small Series Approval for our MEV75 is a significant milestone for Magtec. It is evidence of our commitment to UK manufacturing and our support for fleet managers as they move to zero-emission vehicles. Watch this space for more Magtec own-brand electric vehicles to follow soon.”

Not only is the MEV75 now eligible for a government plug-in grant, which allows fleet managers to purchase the vehicle at a discounted price, but it also provides a reduced monthly financing option. Specifically designed for operations such as last-mile logistics, waste collection, and refrigerated deliveries, the MEV75 is the ideal choice for businesses operating within low-emission zones.

The Small Series Type Approval scheme is necessary for manufacturers looking to place vehicles and components on the UK market. Obtaining the approval requires manufacturers to hold Conformity of Production (CoP) compliance with the Vehicle Certification Agency, which Magtec achieved in 2022 after demonstrating how its operations support vehicle homologation. The company has held CoP in battery and motor manufacture since 2019.

To ensure the MEV75 met the requirements for type approval, a series of tests and audits were conducted, including examinations of the braking, steering, electromagnetic compatibility, rechargeable energy storage system, and noise controls. Fortunately, the results were all positive, no surprise to those that know Magtec's highly skilled engineering team, which now means that the fully electric MEV75 is available for immediate order with chassis gliders from stock.
