Milestone Reached: ZF’s TraXon Transmission Powers Past 1.5 Million Units

Friedrichshafen, Germany. ZF’s industry-leading modular transmission system, TraXon, reached another major production milestone after the 1.5 millionth unit rolled off the assembly line.

  • Production Milestone: ZF’s automated manual transmission system for heavy-duty commercial vehicles, TraXon, has surpassed 1.5 million units since 2014 launch
  • Already in production, the TraXon 2 builds on the platform’s success with improved performance and efficiency
  • Ready for the electrification age: TraXon 2 Hybrid shows high potential for CO2 reduction

Friedrichshafen, Germany. ZF’s industry-leading modular transmission system, TraXon, reached another major production milestone after the 1.5 millionth unit rolled off the assembly line. Since its launch in 2014, TraXon raised the bar for commercial vehicle transmissions worldwide. Manufactured across ZF’s network of plants in Germany, China and Brazil, TraXon continues to support the growing demand for highly efficient drivetrain systems from customers worldwide.
Milestone Reached: ZF’s TraXon Transmission Powers Past 1.5 Million Units
“The original TraXon introduced innovations in transmission technologies that have set the standard for the industry,” said Christian Feldhaus, Vice President of the Transmissions & Hybrids product segment at ZF’s Commercial Vehicle Solutions Division. “Thanks to its high performance and efficiency, it quickly established a global reputation as the benchmark transmission for heavy-duty commercial vehicles globally. With last year’s launch of the TraXon 2, we are building on that heritage with a transmission that delivers even faster shifting, enhanced digital integration and improved fuel economy.”

Capitalizing on the success of ZF’s TraXon platform, the TraXon 2 is equipped with next generation microprocessors, integrated security modules and thorough functional software upgrades, as well as updated in-house designed and manufactured ECU and shift actuators. Enabling a fuel consumption reduction compared to its predecessor, the TraXon 2 is ideally suited for heavy-duty truck and coach applications as well as special applications such as medium-to-heavy-duty mobile cranes.

As the industry moves toward electrification, ZF is already developing the next evolution of the platform with the TraXon 2 Hybrid. Designed to meet the demands of sustainable transport, the hybrid system is capable of delivering electric-only range, enabling zero-emission driving in urban and congested areas, while switching to combustion for long-haul routes.
