Simpsons Malt has further strengthened its haulage capabilities with the addition of two new IVECO S-Way 580 tractor units, supplied by A M Phillip Trucktech. The 6x2 tractor units will be pulling tri-axle Bulk Tipper trailers, and are designed for demanding long-distance operations.
Finished in Simpsons Malt’s distinctive blue livery and paired with aluminium tanks, the two IVECO S-Way 580s join a 30-strong haulage fleet operating from the company’s Tweed Valley Maltings site in Berwick-upon-Tweed - playing a key role in transporting high-quality malt to distillers and brewers nationwide.
With vehicles typically covering 12,500kms per month, the combination of the Cursor 13 580hp engine and advanced driveline technology delivers strong performance while maintaining excellent fuel efficiency on extended haulage routes travelling between Berwick-upon-Tweed and its second maltings site in Tivetshall St Margaret, Norfolk.
“Our trucks cover significant distances every week, supplying customers across the UK, so reliability, efficiency and driver comfort are absolutely critical,” says Paul Murray, Group Fleet Manager at Simpsons Malt. “The IVECO S-Way 580 gives us the power we need for fully laden long-haul work, while its fuel-efficient engine and aerodynamic design help keep operating costs under control. These vehicles operate on HVO too, which gives us meaningful carbon reductions.”
Driver comfort is further enhanced by the spacious cab layout, high-quality seating, excellent visibility and intuitive infotainment systems, helping to reduce fatigue and improve overall wellbeing during long shifts. A spacious active sleeper cab is equipped with roller blinds, bunk curtains, a premium fridge, ambient lighting, and a foldaway table, offering home-away-from-home comforts for drivers. These features have proven popular with Simpsons Malt’s driving team.
“The striking Simpsons Malt trucks really do turn heads,” says Mike Cutts, Business Line Director Full Range UK & ROI at IVECO UK. “We’re delighted that the IVECO S-Way 580 is helping this iconic Northumbrian malt producer maximise efficiency, prioritise safety and deliver outstanding comfort for its drivers, while maintaining the high standards its customers expect.”
Simpsons Malt Limited was established by J.P. Simpson in Alnwick, Northumberland, in 1862 and has remained a family-owned and run business ever since. Operating independently in a continually evolving marketplace, the company supplies malted products primarily for the production of beer and whisky.
