THE RHENUS GROUP LAUNCHES ELECTRIC AND LIQUEFIED BIOGAS TRUCKS TO TEST THEIR SCALABILITY TO NEW REGIONS AND TRAFFIC FLOWS
The Rhenus Group, a global leader in logistics solutions, has initiated trials to assess the viability of alternative fuels in the regions and traffic segments most suited to the characteristics of these new mobility models.
The German brand Quantron has developed an electric truck that will pick up and deliver goods in central Madrid, particularly in areas sensitive to emissions. This project is the result of a four-year agreement between the logistics group and Quantron Spain to ensure economic viability and long-term sustainability.
The truck that Rhenus has incorporated in Andalusia is a Scania vehicle adapted for the use of DUAL-GLP fuel, a system that is one hundred percent compatible with the use of renewable gas, which allows operation with diesel and LPG. The truck will be responsible for supplying the company Carrier, a world leader in heating, air conditioning and refrigeration solutions, at its production plant in Montilla (Córdoba).
The commissioning of both vehicles will enable Rhenus to identify potential applications for these fuels in other operational areas. The results obtained with these trucks can be used as a reference to analyse key variables such as autonomy, performance on certain distribution routes or more technical aspects, such as their viability in different terrains.
‘These initiatives demonstrate our commitment to innovation and reflect our desire to improve environmental performance in the logistics sector and align ourselves with the needs of our customers. The implementation of these vehicles in two very different traffic segments will allow us to draw valuable conclusions to scale our commitment to the most advanced technologies in mobility,’ says Andreu Gutiérrez, Country Sales Director Road of Rhenus Logistics in Spain.
