Volvo Trucks has joined forces with Middlesex University to launch the commercial vehicle industry’s first degree-level Truck Sales Apprenticeship, with the inaugural intake of apprentices set to commence this September.
Volvo Trucks has joined forces with Middlesex University to launch the commercial vehicle industry’s first degree-level Truck Sales Apprenticeship.
The initiative has been pioneered by Hannah Mayo, Director of New Vehicle Sales for Volvo Trucks UK & Ireland, as a new approach to broaden diversity within the sales team and attract a new generation of talent.
There will initially be six places available on the three-year course, providing a fantastic opportunity to combine real-world experience within Volvo Trucks, with regular learning support from a workplace mentor and a tutor from Middlesex University.
Mayo explains: “We want to take responsibility for shaping the next generation of Volvo Trucks salespeople, by giving a group of apprentices the chance to develop their capabilities with us as they study, putting what they learn into practice right away. It will be a unique opportunity for them to discover more about themselves and their aspirations, whilst learning about our brand, the industry and what it takes to work in a truck-specific sales environment.
“Across our business there’s also a real drive to encourage greater diversity, because this brings together different ideas, different backgrounds and gives our team a more rounded approach. As the industry evolves, especially with new technologies like electric trucks, diversity in sales will strengthen our ability to adapt and succeed.”
Volvo Trucks has a strong track record for offering apprenticeships in the UK & Ireland, each year welcoming more than 100 new apprentices across its head office in Warwick, as well as both wholly owned and independent dealer locations. Existing apprenticeships span everything from HGV Technicians to Parts Advisors, alongside Sales Administrators, Customer Service Representatives and Learning & Development Practitioners.
Middlesex University has a strong reputation for its career-driven education and is recognised for the emphasis it places on employability. It has a community of 38,000 global students across three campuses in London, Dubai and Mauritius.
