The Cowpie Country Show is run by The Surrey County Federation of Young Farmers Club to provide a venue for their Outdoor Competitions Day, to raise money to run the Surrey Young Farmers Charity and to provide an exciting day out for all. The first Cowpie was in 1980 and developed from the Surrey Young Farmers Outdoor Rally which was already an annual event, it incorporated a Farm Open Day courtesy of our first host, John Gray at Goldstone Farm, Polesden Lacey.

The Cowpie Country Show has had a number of variations to its name over the past 44 years. The original name of Cowpie Rally reflected the Young Farmers Competitions day. This developed into Cowpie Rally and Country Fayre and finally into the Cowpie Country Show as it is known today.

The name Cowpie originated from the numerous cow pats to be found on the early sites and the sport of Cowpie throwing, which was popular in the States at the time. For many years Cowpies were collected from the fields during the winter months and dried ready for hurling in the main ring on the show day.

Our committee is made up of volunteers who are either current Young Farmers, parents of Young Farmers, past members, or key people who have been co-opted to share their particular expertise and skills. Each year the show is planned for over 9 months with a monthly meeting and hours of hard work from all involved.

The Show has developed into a brilliant annual event, well-known throughout the county and beyond.
