IDV Robotics is a world-class, provider of Robotics and Autonomous Systems for use in Defence applications. We are seeking a Senior Autonomy Software Engineer to join a small, fast-moving team working to create advanced robot prototypes and products.

The ideal candidate has experience participating in vehicle autonomy or robotics design and implementation. Examples of excellent practical experience include developing software for autonomous vehicles and robots, including creating hardware-software interfaces for actuators and sensors, developing path/motion planning algorithms, and creating visualisations for sensor and autonomy decision making.

The team’s engineers write software, conduct experiments, communicate results, give high-profile demonstrations and develop innovative solutions to new problems. We offer a relaxed but hard-working environment where individuals are recognised for their personal performance. We work a Hybrid model with up to 80% home working.

We are looking for a Senior Autonomy Software Engineer to join the team. The role will involve but not limited to:

Collaborative development of robotic autonomy algorithms capable of making robust decisions for planning and control in uncertain, dynamic environments.
Developing efficient software for motion control, path planning, task execution, etc.
Support prototyping of autonomous systems and validate designs through a series of purpose-designed experiments.
Trouble-shoot complex systems from a multidisciplinary (hardware and software) perspective.

Experience

2-5yrs experience working as part of a team designing and implementing autonomy and robotic based products and technologies
C++ development expertise

Preferred

A senior member of, or leading, a team developing autonomy technologies and products
Full product life-cycle experience.
High level practitioner in C++ software design, implementation and test.

Skills

Strong skills in modern C++ software development
Experience developing software for robotics or autonomous vehicle applications
Experience developing software for one or more topics: vehicle path planning, autonomous path following, motion control, etc.
Excellent problem solving and communications skills
Experience using and developing software on and for Linux
Knowledge of IP networking and messaging using UDP/TCP
Owning user stories from design through to implementation and testing

Desirable

Creating multithreaded code for soft realtime systems
Developing software in a containerised environment using Docker
Deploying software to Linux systems using Docker
Managing Linux systems with SSH, systemd
Previous use of ZeroMQ, gRPC and Google Protocol Buffers libraries
Prototyping software using Python

Qualifications

A relevant engineering, science degree or equivalent

Preferred

Post graduate qualification in Software Engineering or Computer Science

Other information

Must be self-motivated, capable of working independently, innovative, demonstrable track record of delivery
Prepared to travel within the UK and overseas, potentially involving extended periods during project delivery
The successful candidate must be able to work in the UK without restrictions and meet UK government security vetting criteria.
