Overall PurposeTo carry out plating and fabrication tasks to produce high-quality steel components and structures in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, and company standards. The role involves marking out, cutting, shaping, and assembling metal plates, ensuring precision and safety throughout the process.Fabrication of sub-assembliesMain Responsibilities (key tasks)The key responsibilities of the jobRead and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.Mark out, cut, and shape steel plates using appropriate tools and machinery.Assemble components using tack welding, bolting, or other methodsPerformance MeasureOutputs/measures of success in the jobCompletes the specific task within the given time periodEnsure all work meets quality standards and tolerances.Conduct visual inspections and measurements to verify accuracy.Adhere to health and safety regulations and company procedures.QualificationsList the essential and desirable qualifications required for the role Time Served PlaterSkills & KnowledgeWhat key skills are essential and desirable for the role and what level of understanding is required? (List in sufficient details to enable you to distinguish acceptable/unacceptable standards)Awareness of Health & Safety proceduresAbility to work at heightsGood physical stamina and manual dexterityAbility to read and interpret complex technical drawings.Skilled in using hand and power tools, including flame cutting and grinding.Basic welding skills (MMA & MIG)Problem-solving skills – to handle unexpected issues during fabrication.ExperienceWhat type and level of experience is required – be specificProven experience in heavy fabrication or structural steelwork ie; Shipbuilding yards, Construction sites, Railway workshops or Aerospace or automotive manufacturingGeneral Requirements – Additional InformationWork closely with welders, fitters, and engineers to complete projects.Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.Support apprentices and junior staff when required.Identify and report defects or deviations from specifications.Liaise with engineers, welders, and supervisors to resolve fabrication challenges.Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and lean manufacturing practices.
