BY FOCUS & TEAMWORK HARSH DELIVERS A BESPOKE SOLUTION FOR YORKSHIRE FUELS’ 770HP SUPER-TIPPER
Operators buying a full-spec 770hp Scania clearly know exactly what they want, carefully considering every aspect of vehicle specification to deliver a totally premium performance. In this ultimate realm of road haulage, ‘fleet standard’ thinking no longer applies, and all equipment suppliers are obliged to step up to a higher level.
With the full support of Matt Banks at Scania Sheffield, choosing HARSH for the 770’s hydraulics quickly proved the right way to go. Close teamwork of both parties with the customer has resulted in a finished package that precisely addresses the customer’s needs in terms of performance, practicality and finished appearance.
With a slightly shorter wheelbase than the 730hp unit it replaced, the optimum hydraulics solution for the new 770 was to mount the oil tank to the traditional ‘behind the cab’ position as opposed to on the chassis siderails. A slimline alloy design strapped into its own cradle, the 200 litre tank has been fitted close to the rear cab wall, thereby sitting well within the rear edges of the cabside air deflectors. Immediately above the tank is a custom-made panel locating the suzies and a rear floodlight to illuminate the work area above the two-piece chequerplate chassis infill.
Wanting a bespoke hydraulic solution fully up to the quality standard of the host vehicle, company boss Mick Thackray is delighted with the finished result, commenting “Along with the chequerplate chassis infill and simple pipework, HARSH has given us a really professional and well engineered package, along with top quality installation and paintwork to match the main cab colour. It complements the rest of the truck perfectly.”
Running with a brand new Fruehauf plank – sided tipping trailer, a 28 tonnes payload gives Yorkshire Fuels an ideal carrying capacity given that many loads such as coking coal can bulk-out before they weigh-out.
“We’ve always gone for the best trucks possible” says Mick, “not for vanity, but purely for performance. Saving time adds to productivity. We collect and deliver solid fuels right across northern England and Wales, often working in hill country and on long gradients. With 770hp on tap, this truck can maintain high average speeds like no other. In turn, this means we might get the truck back 20 minutes earlier in the late afternoon, so we can then load it for the next morning. Those extra 20 minutes can potentially save us hours the following day – the truck could well have done 150 miles or so before we even open up! Getting the maximum amount of work out of the vehicle is what matters – that’s where productivity really lies.”
Speaking for HARSH, Sales & Marketing Executive Sid McCoy comments “Yorkshire Fuels’ Scania 770 is a truly superb vehicle, which once again demonstrates how we at HARSH work closely with both truck operators and truck dealers to deliver solutions that are exactly right for each and every customer requirement.
HARSH is now the clear market leader in fitting truck hydraulics, whether at our sites in York or Downham Market. Our kits work with almost any make and model of tractor unit, new or used, whether employed with bulk tippers, ejectors, walking floors or even liquid tankers. Whatever the customer needs, standard or bespoke, we can always deliver an ideal solution.”
