This new capability allows us to deliver the IOSH “Managing Safely” course internally, providing tailored training to our managers and supervisors in line with the specific risks and responsibilities of our manufacturing environment.

Achieving this status has been no small feat. Our Health & Safety Manager, Mark Nixon, has worked tirelessly over the past 14 months to meet IOSH’s stringent requirements – covering everything from internal quality control processes to trainer competency and assessment standards.

Why It Matters

Manufacturing environments can be inherently hazardous, and managing risk effectively is critical. The IOSH Managing Safely course is designed to give managers and supervisors the practical knowledge they need to take ownership of safety and embed it into everyday operations.

Delivered over a minimum of three days, the course covers:

  • Risk assessment and control
  • Legal responsibilities and compliance
  • Incident investigation techniques
  • Performance measurement and auditing
  • Hazard identification across mechanical, physical, chemical, and organisational categories

By bringing this expertise in-house, we can ensure:

  • Contextualised training that reflects our real-world working practices
  • Improved safety performance and fewer incidents
  • Faster roll-out of critical training initiatives across sites
  • Long-term cost savings by reducing the need for external trainers
  • Enhanced internal standards aligned with national best practices

What It Means for Don-Bur

Our IOSH-accredited programme isn't just a checkbox – it's part of a larger cultural shift. We’re fostering a proactive safety culture where managers at every level understand their role in protecting colleagues, reducing risk, and maintaining compliance.

Successful delegates will receive a globally recognised IOSH certificate, and we also have access to the one-day Managing Safely Refresher course to ensure continued professional development.

This accreditation reinforces our position as a responsible employer and supports our wider sustainability and governance goals.
