EV Charging on the M42: Moto CHARGE launches at Tamworth services

The Super Hub at Tamworth services is Moto’s third launch of their own Charge Point Operator brand, Moto CHARGE, which has already launched at two previous locations earlier in the year at both Toddington North Services and Reading East Services. This marks another key milestone in delivering fast, reliable EV chargingto areas currently underserved by charging facilities and infrastructure. Together with 24 new GRIDSERVE high powered charging bays that opened earlier this week, and 8 dedicated bays for electric HGVs and other extra-large electric vehicles such as vans and towed caravans, Moto Tamworth now offers 44 ultra-rapid charging bays, propelling it into one of the larger EV charging hubs on the UK motorway network.

Powering the next generation of transport
Moto Tamworth is more than another EV charging location but a glimpse into the future of customer needs from a motorway service area and the need for energy development.
At the heart of the development is a major upgrade to the local electricity network, including a new 14MVA primary substation at Moto Tamworth capable of supplying enough electricity to power a large town, delivered by Actemium UK.
While the UK Government’s Green Recovery Fund supported the installation of new 33kV cable infrastructure to the Moto site, the primary substation and associated electrical infrastructure that flows into the Moto estate was jointly funded by GRIDSERVE and Moto.
Alongside passenger car charging, the site includes 8 high power bays for eHGVs, buses, coaches, motorhomes and EVs towing trailers or caravans, helping prepare the network for the next phase of transport electrification.
Where is Moto CHARGE heading next?
Our mission at Moto CHARGE is to support EV adoption and driver confidence across our motorway network. Whilst Moto currently has over 1,100 ultra-rapid EV charging bays, we want to support those locations that are currently underserved or need more high powered facilities. We are hoping to power online sites such as Moto Doncaster North, Moto Leigh Delamere East and Moto Stafford North whilst expanding EV offering in popular locations such as Moto Exeter.
