Macfarlane Packaging Goes Electric with Help from Fraikin
Five New Electric Vehicles Take to the Roads As Part of Macfarlane Packaging's Carbon Reduction Strategy
Macfarlane Packaging has just announced the addition of five new electric vehicles (EVs) to its growing commercial delivery fleet. This is part of the Macfarlane Group's ongoing commitment to their carbon reduction strategy and will be in the form of a new Renault 16-tonne fully electric rigid truck and four new 3.5-tonne electric Luton vans taking to the roads. Supplied by Fraikin, these fully electric vehicles produce zero emissions due to being powered by battery technology, and with near silent running there is no noise pollution either.
Tim Hylton, Logistics Director at Macfarlane Packaging, said, “ Deploying electric vehicles in our delivery fleet is a great way for Macfarlane Packaging to reduce our carbon emissions. Combined with our best practice driving programme, gradually increasing the number of zero emission electric vehicles we operate will see us reduce fuel use and lower our impact on the environment. Together, this will ensure that we can deliver vital packaging to protect the products of our customers across the UK in an environmentally friendly way.”
To mark the arrival of the new electric vehicles, Macfarlane Packaging held an internal competition to have young, family members of Macfarlane Group colleagues design the truck livery. The winning design was chosen and is now proudly painted on the Macfarlane Packaging electric trucks across the UK.
Colin Melvin, Commercial Director for Fraikin, commented, “We pride ourselves on our ability to use our industry experience and understanding of alternative fuels and connected technologies to deliver the right solution. Macfarlane Packaging is a longstanding, valued customer for Fraikin and it’s fantastic to be playing such an important role in its sustainability strategy.”
