Mercedes-Benz Trucks expands Remote App with parking search for truck drivers

  • New parking feature displays current parking capacity and occupancy status

  • Public truck parking areas in Germany integrated at market launch

  • Expansion to Austria underway, with additional European countries to follow gradually

  • Feature available in the Mercedes-Benz Truck Remote App from the end of August

According to the ADAC, there is still a shortage of around 20,000 truck parking spaces along Germany’s motorways[1]. Particularly at night, the shortage becomes increasingly apparent. Mercedes-Benz Trucks is therefore expanding its Remote App with a new parking feature designed to help drivers locate available truck parking spaces more easily.

With the new functionality, drivers can obtain information about available parking spaces in advance and plan suitable stopping points more effectively. The feature can help reduce time spent searching for parking, save valuable driving time and make long-haul operations more predictable and efficient.

Stina Fagerman, Head of Marketing, Sales and Services at Mercedes-Benz Trucks: "With the new parking feature, we are enhancing the Mercedes-Benz Truck Remote App with a service that delivers tangible value in drivers’ daily operations. Finding available truck parking spaces is a constant challenge, especially in long-haul transport. Digital solutions can help by providing greater transparency and delivering relevant information directly to drivers’ smartphones."

Public parking facilities in Germany integrated at launch

At market launch, the Truck Remote App will provide information on public truck parking areas in Germany. The underlying data is supplied via infrastructure and toll systems. As part of the toll collection process, the positions of all trucks equipped with a toll collection device are recorded. These vehicle position data are matched with location and capacity data of truck parking areas to determine available capacity. As a result, approximately 2,000 public parking facilities along Germany’s federal motorways are already integrated into the feature.

The expansion to Austria is currently underway, with additional European countries set to follow gradually. Mercedes-Benz Trucks is therefore continuously expanding the information services available in the Remote App and creating greater transparency for drivers operating in international long-haul transport.

Remote App serves as the digital interface between driver and vehicle

The new parking feature complements the existing services of the Mercedes-Benz Truck Remote App. The application serves as a digital interface between driver and vehicle, enabling access to important vehicle information directly via smartphone. Users can, for example, check vehicle mileage, tyre pressure and compressed-air supply, as well as remotely monitor the status of locking systems, doors and windows.

For the battery-electric eActros 600, the app additionally provides information on battery charge level, remaining range, charging status and charging progress. It also includes map integration featuring vehicle location, fuel stations, charging stations, parking facilities and Mercedes-Benz Trucks service partners along the route. The current portfolio of functions is further complemented by a digital vehicle handbook and live charging activities for the eActros 600, allowing drivers to conveniently monitor charging progress in real time on their smartphones.

Through the continuous enhancement of the Truck Remote App, Mercedes-Benz Trucks is further expanding its digital service offering and strengthening its connected truck ecosystem.
