Certas Energy Sets Standard With Customer Commitment To HVO Transition Ahead Of RTX
As businesses wrestle with the growing tension between climate ambition and commercial reality, Certas Energy has reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with businesses on their energy transition journeys by expanding its Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) depot network to 32 sites.
The rollout comes ahead of Road Transport Expo (RTX), the premier tradeshow for the road haulage industry, where Certas Energy renewable fuels expert Sam Allen will join a panel to discuss low carbon trucking and the benefits of transitioning to HVO at the NAEC in Stoneleigh, Warwickshire, June 30-July 2.
Despite an atmosphere of uncertainty in 2026 due to global events, Certas Energy remains committed to bringing fuel solutions closer to its customers as an energy transition partner.
This was a pledge that began five years ago when Certas Energy launched an initial trial of HVO in its fleets from depots in Immingham and Ellesmere Port – a trial that was so successful that HVO was adopted at five hub depots a year later.
By June 2023, Certas Energy exceeded its 2025 carbon reduction target two years ahead of schedule, after its fleet transition to HVO proved a huge triumph.
This proof of success in transitioning a large fleet and significantly reducing emissions with the ‘drop in’ solution of HVO enabled Certas Energy to work with more UK businesses on their own path to a lower emissions future, with HVO the reliable, scalable alternative to standard diesel.
In June last year, to mark the start of RTX 2025, the company announced a seven-figure investment in its HVO depot network after growing the network to 28 sites as Certas Energy supports more customers starting or progressing a carbon reduction programme.
Cathy Bailey, Energy Transition Manager at Certas Energy, said: “HVO is a long-term pledge from us to help businesses of all sizes achieve their ESG targets.
“The net zero conversation has changed. Businesses still want to act, but they need solutions that work commercially, operationally and at scale. That’s where HVO plays a critical role.
“Increasing our depot network means HVO is now more accessible to local communities, who benefit from improved air quality due to the reduced emissions compared to standard diesel.
“Customers can plan their transition journey with certainty. In an uncertain world, whether that’s energy prices, regulation or supply chains, what business needs is consistency, an option that reduces emissions today.
“By continuing to invest in HVO, we give customers the confidence and capability to act now, while the wider energy transition continues to evolve.”
According to the UK Department for Transport, consumption of HVO hit 408 million litres in the first 10 months of 2025.
During RTX, Certas Energy experts will be available on stand P4 to welcome attendees keen to explore bulk fuel, HVO, AdBlue and lubricants.
